The Tournament Continues

This news may be a little old, but at least my timing is good – tomorrow (Thursday, 3/5/09) a new free add-on pack will release for the PC & PS3 versions of Unreal Tournament 3.  The pack will add new maps, multi-player modes, units, vehicles and trophies/Steam achievements.  I’ve been wanting to get back into playing this game lately – looks like I just found a good excuse.  :)

  • We’ll be able to find out a whole lot easier soon, as Sony is finally adding the ability to view your trophies online.  The update goes live tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/3/09) and looks to offer a very easy view of all relevant trophy information.  They plan to expand this further later on, adding other options such as the ability to compare your trophies to someone else.

  • Prince of Persia Expansion Delayed

So far, I like what I am seeing this generation of games.  It’s true, not every game is a winner, but I have personnally played through some of my PS3 games twice within the year since I’ve purchased them.  It is unheard of for me to play a game through twice within a year’s time, no matter how much I like it.

The new Prince of Persia is just such a game.  Two play throughs have scored my first platinum trophy, and I have been looking forward to the expansion.  Expansion or no, I could just about play through the game again for the subtelties in the interaction between the Prince and Elika.  (Thanks Greg.  It’s your fault for talking to me and making me think about it again.) • Free Castle Crashers DLC

Behemoth studios wanted their new DLC for Castle Crashers to be free.  Apparently, Microsoft didn’t agree.  But you know the old saying, “where there’s a will, there’s a way.”  Behemoth has purchased a large number of codes for the game from Microsoft, and they are giving them away.  All you have to do is join the Castle Crashers group on Facebook and message the dev or join & post in a thread on their forums asking for it.

For more information, check out Behemoth’s site.  I’ll admit I never purchased CC, but that’s going to change very soon – this is the kind of dev. I want to support.

  • PSP Drought Over

Today Sony announced several major franchises that are making their way to the PSP this year.  Titles are not ports of existing games but instead unique PSP-exclusive entries.  They include LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Assassin’s Creed and Rock Band.

In addition to this, Atlus announced today a port of the PSOne classic Persona – yes, the original.  In typical Atlus fashion, this promises to be far from a straight port – they say among other changes the game will feature a completely redone localization & content never before seen in North America.

You can read further details on the Persona story at Atlus’ site, and read up more details on the rest over on Sony’s blog.

  • Singularity

If you are anything like me, you are always looking for the next sleeper title that is going to blow you away.  These are the games that don’t get the hype that other games get.  These are the games that seemingly crop up overnight.  These are the ones that leave you saying, “Where did that come from?!?”  Many times, they don’t get mainstream popularity at their height, but are fun, nonetheless.

  • Co-op Cast Episode 2

Greg and I have a quick chat about Deadspace, Flower the wind simulator, and gaming on the cheap with Fracture.  We also give our impressions on Street Fighter IV, the new patch for Burnout Paradise, and some of our anticipated games. We also take the time to scold Activision for suing EA.

  • Battle Fantasia To PSN?

IGN is reporting that a recent ESRB listing shows Battle Fantasia coming to the PS3 via the PSN.  Battle Fantasia is a fighter by the same team that brought us Guilty Gear.  It is a very anime-esque game that puts a RPG face on a fighting game.  The game was previously only available in the US on the 360.

  • Liongames “Out of Business”

Liongames has emailed their customers to let them know they are no longer in business.

Liongames was the extension of a local games vendor in Connecticut.  They took trade-ins and offered new games at very low prices, chaulking the loss up to “marketing”.  The site, which now displays the “going out of business” message, discusses their business model and what they did to stay afloat in the market of trade-in games.  The actual retail stores from which Liongames was created will continue to do business.
