The Playstation blog was just updated announcing that firmware version 2.70 will be released “soon”. (Er, Greg tels me its out now.) The firmware boasts such innovative features as text chat with up to 15 of your friends. The ability to sort your friends list in many different ways, and the ever so impressive backing up video feeds!
Honestly Sony, I love the PS3 for its ability to have non-proprietary peripherals, the PSN store, how well it works hand in hand with my PSP, but text chat? Lets pull something out of this century, instead of rehashing the 90’s IRC phase all over again.

I downloaded it without knowing what it does. Sorting the friends list could be good I guess. Can I hide the friends invite I got from a dude I don’t think I know but don’t want to chance it by deleting?
Trey, it looks like Penny-Arcade agrees with you: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/4/3/. Personally, I think it’s not the most useful thing in the world but not the worst either.
Wow, its like PA has my brain tapped lately. And I never said it was the worst, I just think that its a non-feature.
